Kyoto: 5 recommended MICHELIN restaurants

Michelin Guide Kyoto 2023 has been announced. All three-star and Green Star restaurants maintain their rank from last year. As newcomers include, 1 new two-star restaurant, 3 new one-star restaurants and 15 new Bib Gourmands restaurants have been added.

RestaurantDODICI

This is an Italian restaurant located in the Gosho-minami area, which won its first star this year. Its modern and luxurious space uses blue as its base color makes a perfect environment for anniversaries and birthday celebrations. You can enjoy Italian cuisine made with Japanese ingredients and have it paired with wine selected by a sommelier with Japanese and Italian qualifications. Lunch courses start at 6,600JPY and dinners start at 13,200JPY.

RestaurantShimogamo Saryo Main Store

Shimogamo Saryo is located in one of the most historical and scenic locations in Kyoto. This restaurant was established in 1856 at a traditional Japanese house with a beautiful garden. You can taste traditional yet innovative Kyoto style dishes, which are prepared with the inspiration drawn from the changes of the four seasons. The recommended course is "Shimogamo Gozen'' (8,250JPY), which is only available for weekday lunches. You can enjoy the taste of a Japanese restaurant at a reasonable price with 8 dishes such as appetizers, simmered dishes, and grilled eight dishes.

RestaurantSushi Hayashi

"Sushi Hayashi" is located in a quiet area on the north side of the Imperial Palace. The restaurant has a beautiful 8 seat wooden counter, where you can enjoy sushi that combines Edomae sushi and Kyoto sushi using local fish from the sea near Kyoto. You can enjoy it with Swiss wine that only 1% of the total production is exported. The lunch nigiri course is 14,300JPY, and the omakase course is 24,200JPY, during lunch and dinner time. ※Omakase=chef’s choice

This restaurant offers Spanish cuisine that sticks to wood-fired cooking, a specialty of the Basque Country. The casual space can be used for a wide range of occasions, from one person to groups and celebrations. There are two types of course meals for lunch, and in the evening you can enjoy local dishes from all over Spain in the “Omakase course” starting at 6,000JPY. *Reservations are required for dinner courses only.

"Otaya" has won the Bib Gourmand category for seven consecutive years and has been featured in magazines and books.
