Sumiyoshi Taisha is a famous Shinto shrine located in Sumiyoshi, Osaka. Rich with historical and cultural significance, the shrine has been home to the Sumiyoshi Sanjin 住吉三神, the three gods of the sea and sailing, since Empress Jingu ordered for its establishment in 211.

There is a picturesque arched bridge called Sorihashi (sometimes called Taikobashi), located just behind the main gates. In Shinto, it is believed that just by crossing this bridge to get to the main shrine makes you “harai” , meaning, it will remove all evil from your body. It’s also an ideal photoshoot location with calm waters, lush trees, and a striking vermillion colored bridge.

There are two recommended access routes to Sumiyoshi Taisha. Take the Nankai Line to Sumiyoshi Taisha, or the Hankai Uemachi Line to Sumiyoshi-Toriimae.
