So blessed🫶Another year of birthday dinner with my 🐗. Also as a grand finale to our one day trip through Kyoto, we indulged in Kaiseki Kinmata, a more than 200-year-old traditional Japanese restaurant that specialises in Kaiseki cuisine. We were welcomed and escorted by a lady. 🐗 had booked to eat in a Japanese-styled private room, spacious with a small Japanese designed garden. The food was guided by Japanese aesthetic and the season that was conveyed in the presentation, taste and smell of food. Our lady servers spoke English well and walked us through each of the hand-crafted courses.
From the season’s first bonito with summer orange sauce, to the claypot sakura shrimp rice with grilled salmon, concluding with the Mizu-yokan, every dish was superb with explosions of taste that are totally subtle and complex. But the highlight has to be all seasonal dishes, especially the lidded item - minced meat stuffed dumplings with pea sauce(?) and lily root. It was truly a unique blend of texture, aroma(from the spice and lily root), taste and the Japanese art.
The assorted tempuras were definitely not to be missed. Each ingredient was coated in a paper-thin batter. My personal favorite was the tempura shrimp, which had a rich umami flavour without any unpleasant greasiness or oiliness, making it true masterpiece.
It was the perfect location for a fancy date. The staff was not only friendly, but also elegant and attentive. It was an authentic dinner to be remembered and I cannot recommend this restaurant more😋😋
