Top 5 Restaurants and Cafes in Tokyo Station -- Editor’s Pick
2019-10-18

Tokyo Station, being one of Japan’s busiest hubs of local railway and shinkansen lines, has transformed into “Tokyo Station City” complex in recent years. You’ll find Tokyo Station in a beautiful red brick building that dates back to the early 1900s on the Marunouchi side, enveloped by newer skyscrapers with shopping, dining and travel facilities on the Yaesu side. The two sides are connected by a convenient passageway--and is home to dozens of restaurants of various niches!

Restaurant Kamatake Udon Yaesu Kitaguchi Store

Selected by a popular Japanese eatery directory as one of the top udon restaurants for two years in a row, Kamatake is famous for their rather chewy sanuki udon arranged in the Osaka Namba style. Udon at Kamatake costs between ¥570 and ¥1150, with the most popular option being chikutamaten-bukkake (¥780; udon topped by an oversized chikuwa fish cake and a half-cooked egg). Toppings here are quite unique; expect to see kimchi, chilli oil, fried squid, fried mochi, and ginger on the menu besides the regular. This is not a place for you to sit down and chat for hours though -- locals usually just drop by for a quick meal!

The counter seats along the big glass windows are great for small groups as well as lone matcha lovers!

Although items here are typically priced around ¥1,500, the elegant ambience at Saryo Tsujiri makes it very worthwhile.
