USJ Osaka | OpenRice Japan

One of the most popular attractions in Osaka is USJ (Universal Studios Japan), a giant amusement park with many different sections to it, each one with its own theme, attractions, events, stores and restaurants. To get there you will need to take the JR Yumesaki line (also known as JR Sakurajima line) to Universal City station. From Osaka station it will take about 15 minutes via the Osaka Loop line but keep in mind you will need to change trains at Nishikujo station. USJ has many sections and in this article we will introduce some of our favorite ones and where to eat.

SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™

The newest arrival to Osaka USJ, super nintendo world area opened in March 2021. Here, you can enjoy attractions like Mario kart race, a treasure hunt with Yoshi on Yoshi's adventure. There is even an area where you can play as Mario by collecting items to fight Bowser Jr, punch blocks for coins and meet Mario and his friends in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Kinopios Cafe

We recommend stopping at this cafe if you want to eat something upon arriving or before leaving the super nintendo world area. As part of the Mario theme, this cafe’s chef is none other than Toad (Kinopio)! All the dishes here have a theme to them such as the Mario's Bacon Cheeseburger (2,000JPY) and the Super Mushroom Pizza Bowl with Mushroom Tomato Sauce (1,500JPY).

Minion Park

The little minions from Despicable Me have taken over a small part of USJ. They opened a few shops where you can buy small souvenirs made by the minions, a few arcade games, and a few rides. Also, there are plenty of places to take pictures with the minions.

Delicious Me! The Cookie Kitchen

This minions snack booth is a must visit for their Minion Cookie Sandwich. There are different kinds of flavors like the Banana Ice Cream & Fruits (600JPY). All flavors are shaped like a one-eyed smiling minion emoji.

THE WIZARDING WORLD OF HARRY POTTER™

Harry Potter is one of the most popular fictional worlds out there and many wish they could visit it. USJ is definitely doing everything they can to give you that feeling. You can enter Hogwarts™ castle and its hallways and class room including Dumbledore's office and the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom. Among their attractions, you can take flight on the back of a hippogriff in the form of a roller coaster or go on an immersion ride that takes you through out the world of Harry Potter using ultra-realistic images with 3D glasses and other effects such as a rotation chair and heat mimicking dragons breath.

Three Broomsticks™

A popular dining spot in the Harry Potter world is the Three Broomsticks™ from Hogsmeade™, loved by wizards and students alike. The same can be said in USJ as it is a popular dining spot there too. We recommend trying the Black Beer Beef Stew (2,300JPY) or the Rotisserie smoked chicken & pork ribs plate with beef onion pie & potato soup (2,400JPY).
