Kyoto Sukiyaki
2021-09-07
Sukiyaki is a dish usually served in a shallow iron pot over an open flame, like a stand-alone gas stove. Ingredients like shiitake mushrooms, tofu, and thin cuts of beef are simmered in a rich soy sauce based broth and usually enjoyed family-style. Each diner is usually given a small bowl with a battered raw egg as a dip.

In the Kansai area, where Kyoto is located, sukiyaki is cooked differently than Kanto (Tokyo) style. In Kansai, the meat is cooked first, then the broth is added, then the vegetables go in last. You can enjoy Kansai-style sukiyaki in convenient locations at reasonable prices in Kyoto!
